My #1 son isn’t the only one leaving for college in a matter of weeks. His friends also will move out of our lives, at least for awhile. And we’ll really miss them, too
Last week our “third son,” Chase, who will attend Rice University, and Karan, who is headed for Texas A&M, came over to film what might be the last Stickless StickShift video for awhile. Chase, our neighbor, and my #1 son met Karan in kindergarten 12 years-that-have-flown-by-in-a-wink ago.
Now Karan is rockin’ a beard, all three have grown taller, and they no longer care about zooming toy trucks along the sidewalk or discussing the value of Pokémon cards. It’s great that they’re all still good friends who enjoy watching silly YouTube videos as well as producing their own.
In a few weeks the trio will be off to new adventures. The boys will make new friends while never forgetting the ones they’ve grown up with, the ones who know them best. I’m excited for all of them, but I’m sad that we’ll no longer get to see them very often.
Parting is such sweet sorrow!

I bet they’ll really miss each other. Facebook will help. But it won’t be the same. My daughter is spending as much time as possible with her friends right now. Most of them are going to colleges far away.
You’re right . . . Facebook isn’t the same as riding your scooter to your best friend’s house (which is what Chase does when he comes over). At least my #1 son’s friends all will be within a three-hour radius.
