For the second straight year, my #2 son and the Mister played in a disc golf team event. Several weeks ago they drove a few hours to Wimberley, Texas, and joined their talents together with other local disc golf players who have become like a second family to them.
Sidebar: And for the second straight year, I stayed home with the #1 son. All the time thinking that next year I’ll be able to go with the Mister and #2, because #1 will be in college. Which made me want to be with #1 that weekend even more.
The group of friends split into two teams: Competitive and fun. Can you guess which of my two guys was on each squad? If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you’d know that the little guy competed for the top team. Look at him in the above photo with all the big guys! They’re all older than him . . . well, except that Glen is just a big kid at heart. He and #2 often play doubles together and make a great team.
The Mister was happy to be on the fun team; so much less pressure. See Jessica next to him? She organized a get-together last night so team photos (minus the absent Steve and Matt) could be taken. And some readers may recall that she was the brains behind now-husband Eric’s unusual night disc golf birthday celebration. She’s a great party organizer!
Even though #2 is just a 14-year-old kid, he’s a favorite of the adult disc golfers. As you can see from the photo above, they treat him like he’s a brother or a son. Yes, it’s great fun to have a second family!!
