Preceding “The Muppets” movie is an animated short, “Toy Story Toons: Small Fry.” It was hilarious! It featured the “Toy Story” gang and involved Bonnie’s Buzz Lightyear (formerly Andy’s, of course) getting left behind in the ball pit at a fast food joint.
As Buzz is looking for a way out of the restaurant, he falls through a vent and lands in a fast-food toy support group. It was so funny to see these pathetic, discarded toys trying to feel good about themselves!
This brought back great memories of chasing after all those kids’ meal toys, trying to get them all to complete the set. Anyone remember how hard it was to score all the pieces to McDonald’s “Inspector Gadget” toys? You had to have them all to ultimately assemble the Inspector. And we never did land all 101 dalmatians.
I remember the boys and I especially going crazy trying to acquire all the wonderful “Toy Story” toys that Burger King gave away with its kids’ meals in 1996. Talk about having to eat a lot of chicken nuggets! But seeing my sons’ happy faces as they played with their treasures made it well worth it.
By the way, none of the BK “Toy Story” toys were among the sad rejects in “Small Fry.” No surprise there!
